We’re back. And with something of a bang at that. Credit crunch getting you down? In need of some extra liquidity? Then point yer plimsols in the direction of The Green on 25 October for a recession-busting, booze-fuelled, beat-driven bonanza.
Aardvark to Zebra is proud to present ’13 Faces of Lightning Head’ by BiggaBush aka Lightning Head. This fantastic new long player is right up our street and we’re delighted to have the artist along to showcase some of the album tracks alongside his usual eclectic selections. Support comes from Digital City stalwart BarryDark, Cardiff scratchmeister Marky and Aardvark to Zebra resident Ketsbaia.
Things kick off at 8.00pm sharp and carry on until the earliest hour of the morning. We think this one will be quite full, so get along early to bag your spot. You can even pick up a copy of the album too.
Running order tbc.
Another month, another throw of the dice. And this time all our sixes have come up at once.
We’ve clashed with many different events over the brief history of this hallowed night, so with that in mind, we’ve persuaded none other than Bam Bam Sound’s Johnny Clash to spin us some tuneage. Apt, no?
Joining him at the decks will be reggae and dub-meister Ringo, all-round good egg and top quality Ableton-merchant Lenodd, the primate of all things funky Monkaiboy and resident sloshed-jockey Ketsbaia.
They’ll be lining up in this order (stc):
12-1: Johnny Clash
Come along and see what all the fuss is about. And there’s a good deal of fuss, believe you me.
The Green. Clerkenwell Green. EC1.
But for seekers of musical variety, it couldn’t be more bountiful (yes it could and that’s a crap link – ed.). For on the fifth of that month, Aardvark to Zebra returns to The Green with a cracking line-up that can’t fail to deliver a frothing, seething boil-up of beats and pieces.
Cutting the bullshit and lining up for your musical delectation are:
11-12: Melvin Pickles
12-1: Mr Love
And we’ll be repeating our generous offer of a free mix CD to the first fifty punters through the door.
Come on down and see what all the fuss is about.
After the last-minute cancellation last month, we thought nothing more could go wrong. We underestimated that possibility somewhat since, this month, not only is our flyer designer moving house and having trouble sending over the final artwork, we’re also pitching ourselves against the might of Stokefest, a major draw for many of our regular punters. But are we worried? Not much, because the line-up this month is fantastic.
Spinning platters to get you battered this month are:
8-9: Mr Black
11-12: Gram Canyon
I don’t normally gush or get over-excited about stuff like this, but honestly, this line up is really not bad. There. I’ve said it.
Come along and see what all the fuss is about.
Aardvark to Zebra is at The Green, Clerkenwell Green, EC1. 8pm-1am.

And look, we’re listed in Time Out.
Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel May’s event due to a double booking at the venue.
Normal service to be resumed on June 7 – watch this space.
Well, we’re at it again, folks.
After smashing the granny out of the venue (The Green, Clerkenwell, EC1) for a good couple of hours at our first attempt in February, we’re hoping to go one or two better and fill the place for the entire evening this time, so do come along and see what all the fuss is about.
DJs will be spinning a broad range of styles, so expect the eclectic and be prepared to nod your head quite a bit.
Lining up for your aural pleasure this month are:
8-9: King Rob
p.s. this event is NOT being held in Camberwell, despite it sounding a bit like Clerkenwell, OK? Good.
Well, not quite.
But welcome to the cheap-as-chips homepage for Aardvark to Zebra, a monthly night of vibrant sounds from around the world that span the entire musical spectrum.
This will be where you can find details of forthcoming nights and info on the DJs due to play at them. If I get time, I’ll add stuff like photos and mixes and charts and the like, but for now, it’s nothing but information, I’m afraid.
So what’s Aardvark to Zebra?
I’ll spare you the philosophical nonsense about vision and realisation of dreams, etc. Basically, I like all kinds of music, so I decided to launch a night where you could hear a wide range of stuff, not just limited to one or two genres like most club nights.
Why Aardvark to Zebra? Well, partly, it’s a way of representing the spectrum of music on offer… A to Z and all points in between. But mostly it’s a cynical ploy to be first in listings pages.
Each night, a selection of DJs spin a broad range of styles, taking in Afrobeat, Balearic, Yé-yé* and Zouk alongside more traditional dance genres that complement or even borrow from them, such as funk, disco, reggae and drum ‘n’ bass, all the while keeping it fresh and foot-tappingly funky. Expect the eclectic and be prepared to nod your head quite a bit.
*OK, so I lied about the Yé-yé.
